Thiago Alcantara 100% set for Bayern Munich exit
When Thiago Alcantara signed for FC Bayern from Barcelona, it was seen as a major coup for the Bavarians. They had snatched a top quality playmaker from Barcelona who was more or less perfect for how then-manager Pep Guardiola wanted to play. Move on several years, though, and it’s clear that the Spaniard has come to the end of his time in Germany.
Having stayed long beyond Pep, he might be competing against his former manager in the coming season. This comes down to the fact he has told his club that, with a year to go on his contract, he wishes to leave this summer to try out a new experience. When asked about what comes next at the unveiling of new signing Leroy Sane, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “Hasan [Salihamidzic] had talks with Thiago,
“Curiously they were always very positive. But he told Hasan some time ago that he wants to do something new to finish his career. So far no club has contacted us. We don’t know if he’s settled things with a new club.”
The club being most heavily linked with Thiago is Liverpool. With a functional and athletic midfield, it’s believed that Jurgen Klopp would like to bring in a more creative midfielder to help further his creative options next summer. With a potential exit for some players coming, too, it could see Thiago find the space he requires in the Liverpool midfield to open up ahead of the new season.
