Having become one of the most impressive marksmen in the Bundesliga since arriving, 28-year-old striker Alassane Plea has made a real name for himself. Excelling under Marco Rose n particular, the striker has a contract until 2023 but is now expected to leave Germany. The Gladbach forward has quickly made himself a key name within the Foals team, but is expected to return back to France with a move to former club Olympique Lyonnais on the table.
Lyon are a club who are looking to re-establish their profile, and signing a player with the quality of Plea would be seen as a major coup indeed. However, the chance to complete the move for a player in his prime might come at a premium cost, with the two years left on his deal meaning that Lyon might need to dig deep to bring home a player they let go in the past without much stress.
The player has also been linked with a move to Rennes, who are expected to be open to big deals this summer as they look to cash-in on a few major star names. Gladbach, though, are expected to be happy to make the sale happen as the player has made clear he would like to try out something new.
With the Foals falling away last season after it was announced that Rose would join rivals Borussia Dortmund, fans might not be surprised to hear that Plea is heading off. His exit is seen as one of the first of many, as Gladbach look set to lose a few of their key first team players as the summer develops.
Expect a few exits to take place in the coming weeks, as they look to build a new squad entirely.
Is Alassane Plea linked anywhere else?
Plea has enjoyed an impressive time in Germany and with that in mind several names are being linked. He has also been linked to several clubs in England, including West Ham United and Newcastle United. However, it is believed that a mix of family reasons and competitive comfort means that Plea is likely to return to France. Also, the chance to become the focal point for Lyon would likely appeal to a player who already spent so long as part of the Lyon system.
Seen as one of the best strikers who is on the market this summer, Plea is expected to have offers from across Europe but a move to France is seen as by far and away the most likely option. With two years left on his deal, it is expected that he will be sold on as opposed to agree a new deal, as Gladbach look to use the funds elsewhere in the squad.
